We are in process of looking at several tools to support a) the development of an IT Service Catalog and b) Manage it.
Someone indicated to us that SAP CCM (Customer Catalog Manager) could be a potential tool to investigate (this is also because we happen to have many other applications running on SAP such as the billing, procurement)
We know of Centrata, Newscale , CA, (Excel/Access...) etc... , but we had never heard of SAP in this space, thus why I am interested to find out if anyone has any experience

I've never heard of SAP having a product in this space.
SAP CCM is the underlying catalog engine of the SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) solution – it’s designed for managing a procurement catalog for spare parts, raw materials, maintenance/repair/operations, etc. A completely different product altogether than a Service Catalog. Be careful of using tools for a different purpose than what they were designed to do - you'll end up with a maintenance and TCO nightmare.
As IT organizations adopt a business orientation and a more service-centric (as opposed to technology and asset-centric) model, it's important that we equip ourselves with the right solutions to address the right business problems. Don't try to use a hammer - just because that's what you've already got in your toolkit - if what you really need is a screwdriver.
