ITIL :: View topic - Configuration Management -> identify CI's
Posted: Thu Mar 24, 2005 10:05 pm Post subject: Configuration Management -> identify CI's
We are setting up configuration management, but we are having a few issues, that we did not solve up till now.
- Software X release 1 installed on 10 PC's
- Software X release 2 installed on 5 PC's
The example displayed above must be recognised as a group where there is one owner for software X, etc. On the other hand individual changes on a machine should be registered.
I am looking for information/ documentation how to identify and register this situation.

One way to approach this would be treat each PC as a config item, and associate a specific version of software X with it.
Another way would be list versions of software X and associate PCs having that specific version.
