COBIT 4.1 references CMM anyways - go to Appendix III, on page 175.

Usual CMM story:
0 = Non-existent
1 = Initial / ad-hoc
2 = repeatable but intuitive
3 = Defined
4 = Managed & measurable
5 = Optimised

same same but different. No, actually, same.

Newcastle where? UK, NSW Australia? Anyway, google "ITIL success factors", contact your local ITSMF chapter - you should be able to get hold of some free whitepapers. Outside of that - buy the books (or at least some of the many good overview books) - they go on alot about how to plan for and implem...

I've got a local Aussie company called Solisma coming in to demo their online maturity tool - yes based on CMM. Will post what I made of it. For the bloke who wrote the original question and cannot use google, there are hoardes of companies that offer ITSM maturity assessments. Most (all?) use CMM s...

One final thing, especially if you're beginning your career, is to be clever when it comes to salary negotiation. You might want an extra 20% salary but the company may play hardball and say no. Instead, consider asking for as much training as possible. They might not want to pay you an extra few th...

Come and work in Australia and you can earn 30-60 lakhs per annum. 8)

But a house will cost you 150-500 so it is all relative. :(

Maybe this is the old fart GenX in me, but I'm always a bit suspicious if a candidate has changed companies every 12-18 months unless they're working in consulting or as contractors. Changing roles every 12-18 months is OK - it's fantastic, but a pattern of constantly jumping ship makes me wonder wh...

One other thing. A wise, grey-haired guy recently told me that wisdom is in short supply. He said that there is loads of data, little wisdom. Data + Purpose = Information Information + Culture = Knowledge Knowledge + Experience/Reflection = Wisdom So take your Service desk data - find your purpose a...

4al, I think you should be commended for wanting more, to go further etc etc. You could join a larger organisation (200 service desk tickets per month tells me that it is a small company where you work or the Service desk is bypassed or doesn't log all tickets) where the scope to progress is greater...

The written exam path allows a bit of journalistic licence but from personal experience, you still have to err on the side of the theoretical ITIL answer to get maximum marks.

IMHO there are pros and cons for each. V3 path Pros: Possibly more indepth training (I have not done it this way). Able to spread across longer timeline. Cons: Only multichoice exams Must spread across longer timeline. Relatively new/immature courseware. More expensive. V2 path Pros: Mature coursewa...

Aucade,

How have you found the COBIT training/certification? Worthwhile? Practical? Complimentary to your ITIL education?

I'm contemplating a COBIT fundamentals course after xmas.

Look forward to any insights..

Rgds,
Tom

Anyone could conceivably update a CI record. If the CMDB is out of whack with the reality in the environment the person who updated the CI (or didn't when they should have) will face the wrath of the Configuration Mgr. Of course, all of this relies on decent tooling - auto-discovery - integrated CMS...

If the Service Request has the necessary approvals (hopefully automated), whether they are pre-approved, or have some workflow to have someone approve the Service request, I don't see why the CI owner HAS to be the person who updates the CI. If someone is not adding value to the process, take them o...
