What are your opinions on the hot swapping of items like fans and hard drives into network devices like a Riverbed?

Some people in our environment believe this is a simple break/fix, where others believe that despite the low risk, this is a change in the environment and deserves at least a Standard Change.

How is this managed in your companies?

For us ANY change to a production environment requires an RFC, in this case it would be a standard change. The benefit of using changes for these types of hardware replacements is now you can run a report and identify possible weak models of certain hardware to avoid in the future.
